A little about how cables work
Cables are made by lifting a section of stitches behind or in front of another section of stitches. There are several ways to make cables. This pattern uses a cable needle (or double pointed needle or crochet hook) to lift the section of yarn in front or behind the current knitting until you are ready to knit/purl that section.
