Limberlost Luna - formerly MMarioKKnits MMystery Kal 2010 Suggested Yarn: fingering or lighter Suggested Needle: 3.75 t0 $4.5\;\mathrm{mm}$ Approximate Yardage: (500 - 900) Depth of Finished Shawl (main body) $=$ approx 200 rows (garter) Width of Finished Shawl (main body) $=256$ Stitches Suggested colourway: MOST appropriate: pale green w/ touch of yellow appropriate: pale blues, silvery greys, lavender also appropriate: most solid or nearly solid colours.
Cast On - Use a Cabled Cast On.
(Slip knot for the first stitch. Insert the needle, wrap and pull through a loop as if to knit. Slip that loop back to the left needle. \*Insert needle BETWEEN the last two stitches, wrap and pull through as if to knit. Slip new stitch back to left needle. Repeat from \* until desired number of stitches are on the needle.) For a purled cable cast on, insert, wrap and make the loop as if to purl.

SWATCHING: (If you will pardon my Klatchian)
The swatch is primarily to determine whether or not you are satisfied with the fabric you are producing. Cast on 11 stitches: (Use either the purled cabled cast on or the regular cabled cast on) work 5 rows in garter:

Work the chart until一 you have at least 4 inches of fabric. (You will add a repeat of the stippled section in each direction for each vertical repeat. ) the chart is worked right to left and then left to right (skipping the leftmost (center) column) for each odd numbered row; turn and work the even numbered row in the same manner. Stitches are charted as worked .this is a garter stitch ground. For written instructions: 1) 0, k1, (k, OAO) k1, (OAO, k1) k1, 0 8) knit 2) (and all even rows) knit 8-16 repeat on each $(...)=\mathbf{x}2$ 3) 0, k1, 0, (A,0KO) ,A, (OKO,A) O, k1,0 17-24 each (.) x3 5) 0, k1, k2tog, O, (kOAO), k1, (OAO,k) O, etc. skp, k1, 0 7) 0, k3, O, (AOKO), A, (OKOA), O, k3, 0

Wash and block for width.
This, combined with the row and stitch counts of the pattern will allow you to determine if your choice of yarn and needle will suffice as the pattern is written, or whether you need to make a different choice, or modify the pattern for either width or height.
