Bubbles on Parade
Bubbles on Parade is a 9 stitch repeat with a selvedge edge that is done in garter stitch and always knit. It is designed to be a planned pooling project, so tension differences between the right and wrong side of the work may be needed. I personally had to tighten my purl stitches and loosen my knit stitches to get my color repeats to line up, but you may have to do something else to achieve this.

Because of the pooling aspect I highly recommend swatching. 1 did this by casting on and knitting several rows in the pattern to make sure my pooling lined up, ripping out and changing my cast on and selvedge edge count until I achieved the result I wanted. Expect a bit of frustration during the first 16-30 rows as you work out your tension and stitch count. The chart shows 4 garter stitches on each side of the pattern repeat, however you may need more or less garter edge, so feel free to add or subtract stitches here until you get your pooling lined up, however I would not recommend going below a 2 stitch selvedge edge. You may also add or subtract numbers of repeats to line up your pooling, I used 10, which is a good number of repeats to start with if you also have a 2 yard skein, and want this project to be stole size when blocked. 1 would recommend starting with somewhere around 5 repeats for a scarf. To make the pooling line up you will need a skein that has a standard color repeat, either A-B-C-A-B-C (great for a scarf!) or A-B-C-C-B-A(best saved for a stole). This will not work with a randomly dyed skein, although the lace pattern is pretty on its own in a solid or semi-solid. I used fingering weight yarn and size US 7 (4.5mm) needles for this project, but you can use any weight yarn and a needle size appropriate to it. Start with 2-4 rows garter stitch, then start the lace patterning. At the end of the project, finish with the same number of garter stitch rows before binding off.
