Inspired by night sky on Seneca Lake, this poncho will keep you cozy on those cool days and nights, whether you're walking along the beach, running errands, or just cuddled on your sofa and you need warmth. Seneca Lake was designed for the beginner and intermediate knitters in mind. It is quick, fun & versatile! It provides color contrast and texture. The loftiness and softness of Classic Elite's Mountain Top Chalet yarn is warm but light against your skin.

Yarn: Mountaintop Chalet, by Classic Elite. Bulky 12 ply - 94 yards 3 Skeins of Slate (7475) Color 1 3 Skeins of Steel (7403) Color 2 4 Skeins of Charcoal (7477) Color 3 Total Yardage Required: Approx. 1000 yards of bulky yarn. Gauge: 14 Stitches & 18 Rows = 4 inches of Stockinette Stitch Needles: Sizell needles (or whatever needed to get gauge) Finished Size: Approx. 38" wide by 22" long.

The poncho is made up of 2 panels - front & back. The tops will be seamed on each end. The middle will have an opening to slip your head through. The garter section is along the 2 sides and bottom of the poncho.
FRONT PANEL
The front panel will have the garter ridge border on 3 sides. The main body will be made up of 2 rows creating the Front Panel Stitch and will have color changes. You can make the entire poncho in one color, if desired. CO 70 stitches in Color 1 (Slate) Garter Edge Border: Rows 1 through 8 - Knit each row. Front Panel Stitch - Rows 9 and 10 make up your main panel stitches. A marker will be placed to maintain garter edge. Row 9 Row 10 Knit 5 (Place Marker-garter edge) Purl 35 Knit 10 Knit 5 Purl 5 Purl 10 Knit 10 Knit 5 Purl 5 Purl 10 (Slip marker) Knit 35 Knit 5 (Garter edge) Repeat Rows 9 and 10 until you have knit 10 inches from the CO edge ending with a garter edge (last 5 stitches after slipping marker) Change to Color 2 (Steel) Continue knitting the Front Panel Stitch for 16 inches ending with a garter edge (last 5 stitches after slipping marker) Change to Color 1 (Slate) Continue knitting the Front Panel Stitch for 8 inches. Knit the last 2 inches in garter stitch by knitting every row. This will create the Garter Edgeborder. Bind Off
BACK PANEL
The back panel will have a garter ridge border on 3 sides. The main body will be made up of stockinette stitch with color changes. CO 70 stitches in Color 3 (Charcoal) Garter Edge/Border: Rows 1 through 8 - Knit each row. Row 9 Knit 5, PM, Knit to End Row 10 Purl to marker, SM, Knit 5 Knit the last 2 rows (rows 9 & 10) keeping 5 stitches within the marker as garter edge until piece measures 15" from CO edge and you end with 5 -stitch garter edge. Change to Color 2 Knit 7" of pattern. End with 5-stitch garter edge. Change to Color 3. Continue in pattern until approx. 13 1/3 inches and end with 5-stitch garter edge. Knit the next 8 rows in garter stitch (knit every row). Bind Off
Finishing - Seaming top ends of poncho
Measure approximately 16 inches on each side leaving an opening in the middle for your head. You can seam more or less depending on how you want it to hand on your shoulders. If you want a larger boat neck opening then seam less. Consider what will happen if you block it slightly, the opening may get larger. After seaming, you could lightly block with a steam iron or wet block but be careful not to stretch it too much. Pattern copyright. This paern isfora personal and non-commercial use.
