Needles and Notions
Set of 5, US 0 $(2\mathsf{\,m m})$ double pointed needles or size to obtain gauge. Tapestry needle Stitch markers Waste yarn Skill Intermediate Gauge 9 sts per inch Abbreviations MC $=$ pattern color cc $=$ background color $\mathsf{M}\mathsf{1}=$ insert left needle from front to back through ladder running between stitches. Knit through the back of this lifted strand.

The Cuff
CO 64 sts using one of the following methods:
Two strand, Two color Cast On:
Make a slip knot 4 inches from end of both balls of yarn. Place the double stranded knot on the needle. (This slip knot will be removed before knitting the 1st round). Now cast on as for Long Tail cast on with CC over the thumb and MC over the index finger.
Braided Cast on Option:
Make a slipknot using two colors of yarn held together. Place the knot on your needle. Hold free ends out of your way. Color A is the yarn closer to the point of your needle. Color B is below Color A. \~Hold Color A around the front and then back of your thumb, with the tail hanging down the palm of your hand. \~Hold Color B around the front and then back of your index finger, with the tail hanging down the palm of your hand. \~Hold the tails out of your way using the other three fingers of your hand. \~\* Put the needle under and up through the palm side yarn coming from around your thumb, grab the front yarn going around your index finger and pull it through. \~Release the yarn from around your thumb and tug at both yarns to loosely snug the loop around the needle. \~We will now be switching yarn colors. Move Color B yarn OVER (in front of) Color A yarn. Place this Color B yarn over your thumb. \~Place the other yarn (Color A that was over the thumb) now over your finger. \~Always move the top yarn over the bottom yarn during this switch to create the braid. Repeat from \* until as many stitches as needed are cast on. Your yarn will begin to twist after a few stitches are made, don't worry, this is normal, just ignore it, or stop periodically and let your needle hang to untwist the working yarns.
Twined Herringbone Border
Round 1: k1 MC, k1 CC, repeat to end of round Rnd 2: Bring both yarns to the front of your work, p1 MC, set yarn just worked down to the left and bring CC over, p1 CC. The working yarn will become very twisted after working this round; it will be untwisted as you work round 3. Rnd 3: P1 MC, P1 CC, setting yarn just worked to the right and bringing the yarn to be worked under it. Rnd 4: Knit 1 round in M walk tos the kitchen. and eat anente baof chlate

Rnds 5 - 10: K2 CC, P2 MC Rnd 11: K in CC
Note about weaving floats over long stretches:
When the distance between color changes is longer than you want a float to be (2 or 3 stitches on these gloves), weaving is used to secure the float. \*Insert the right needle into the next stitch as if to knit. Pick up the color to be woven in and, without pulling too tight, wrap it round the right needle as if to knit. Wrap the working yarn around the needle in the same way, but before drawing the loop through to create the stitch, take the yarn to be woven back round the needle so you do not pullit through. Knit the next stitch with out weaving. Repeat from \*. "Hdey!Dtd yo topand radtis uncredibly unbormatuetorial n weaving Cloats ouer long stretches? Plense do! oul be glad you did!

CHART A

CHART B

Rnds 12- 27: Work Rows 1-16 of Chart A Rnds 28 - 42: Work Rows 1-15 of Chart B Rounds 43 - 57: Work rows 1-16 of Chart A again and begin Thumb Gusset Shaping on Chart row 9 of this $2^{\mathsf{n d}}$ repeat of Chart A as indicated below.
Thumb Gusset Increases
Chart row 9: Work in pattern for 32 sts, redistribute stitches so you can place marker, M1 in MC, place second marker, complete round in row 9 pattern of Chart A. These markers bracket the center stitch of the thumb gusset. You will be increasing after the 1st marker and before the 2nd marker on the following gusset increase rounds. (1 gusset stitch). Chart row 10: Work even in pattern (Gussets stitch is worked in MC) Chart row 11: Work in pattern to first marker, slip marker, M1 in CC, knit gusset center stitch in MC, M1 in CC, slip second marker, work in pattern to end of round. (3 gusset stitches between markers.) Chart row 12: Work even in pattern (Gusset pattern will be Vertical Stripes; K1 MC, K1 CC, repeat.) Chart row 13: Work in pattern and repeat gusset increases as in row 11, alternating MC and CC to create a vertical stripe pattern (5 gusset stitches between markers) Chart row 14: Work even in pattern Chart row 15: Work in pattern and repeat gusset increases (7 gusset stitches between markers) Chart row 16: Work even in pattern

Palm & Back of Hand
Right Hand: Work Chart C (back of hand) for first 32 stitches, continue gusset increase in Vertical Stripe pattern, then work Chart D (palm of hand) for last 32 stitches. Begin row 1 of Chart and continue gusset increases until there are 27 stitches between markers (this should be on Chart Row 19). An extra dpn helps holds the gusset increases as they grow. Work Chart row 20 even in pattern. Chart row 21: Work 1st 32 stitches in chart pattern, remove gusset marker and place 27 gusset stitches on waste yarn. Cast on 3 sts (use backward loop “e” cast on). Knit remaining 32 sts in pattern. (67 sts on needles.) Work next round even in CC only. You have finished Charts C and D. Next round: Using MC, increase total of 5 stitches as follows: (M1, K12) four times, M1, K19 (There are now 72 stitches on the hand of the glove and 27 stitches held for thumb.)

CHART D: Palm of Hand

Finger Shaping
Little finger of both right and left hand: With CC, K9 sts and place next 54 stitches on waste yarn to be worked later. Use backward loop cast on to cast on 2 sts over gap and K9 -20 little finger stitches. Distribute stitches evenly over three needles and knit even in pattern for about $\mid\,\,\nu_{2}{}^{,,}$ or 1" before desired length. Decrease for little finger: R1: (K8, K2tog) 2 times - 18 sts rem Round 2 - 5: Knit R6: (K7, K2tog) 2 times - 16 sts rem R7: Knit R8: (K6, K2tog) 2 times - 14 sts rem R9: (K5, K2tog) 2 times - 12 sts rem R10: (K4, K2tog) 2 times - 10 sts rem Cut yarn and thread tail onto tapestry needle. Draw tail through rem sts 2 times, pulltight, fasten off
Since fingers are tubular, not flat, you'll need to add stitches between and at the base of the fingers to accommodate the width at the sides of the fingers. These extra stitches are added along the inside edges of the fingers to close the gap between the palm and back-of-hand stitches and to form a gusset, called a fourchette, to provide a comfortable fit. In most cases a two-stitch fourchette is sufficient; if your fingers are wide, add three stitches; if they are narrow, add just one stitch.
Raise Hand $\%^{\ast}$
return the 54 stitches that are on hold to 4 dpns. For right hand, begin with back of hand facing you. For left glove, begin with palm of hand facing you. Beginning at the base of little finger, join new yarn and work 1 round even, picking up 2 sts at the inner corner at the base of the little finger to close the gap. Join for working in the round and work one more round even. (56 sts)
Ring finger instructions for right and left hand:
Knit 9 and place next 38 sts on holder. Backward loop cast on 2 stitches, K9 -20 sts for ring finger. Work even in pattern approx. $\textsf{1}\Vdash^{\mathfrak{N}}$ or 1" less than desired length. Decrease as for little finger over last 10 rounds. Fasten off as for little finger.
Middle finger right hand:
Place 9 of the held stitches from the back of the hand on needle. Place 9 sts from palm on another needle. With a third needle, join CC yarn in center of 2 CO sts at base of ring finger. Pick up and knit 1 st in CO st at base of ring fin ger. Knit across 9 back-of-hand stitches. Backward loop cast on 2 stitches. Knit 9 palm stitches then pick up 1 more st in rem CO at base of middle finger. -22 stitches on Middle finger.
Middle finger left hand:
Place 9 of the held stitches from the back of the hand on needle. Place 9 sts from palm on another needle. With a third needle, join CC yarn in center of 2 CO sts at base of ring finger. Pick up and knit 1 st in CO st at base of ring fin ger. Knit across 9 palm stitches. Backward loop cast on 2 stitches. Knit 9 back-of-hand stitches then pick up 1 more st in rem CO at base of middle finger. (22 stitches on Middle finger.)
Continue Middle Finger for both right and left hand:
Join and work even in chosen pattern until finger measures about 1" from desired length. Decrease as follows: R1: (K9, K2tog) 2 times - 20 sts rem Round 2 - 4: Knit R5: (K8, K2tog) 2 times (18 sts rem) R6: (K7, K2tog) 2 times (16 sts rem) R7: (K6, K2tog) 2 times (14 sts rem) R8: (K5, K2tog) 2 times (12 sts rem) R9: (K4, K2tog) 2 times (10 sts rem) Cut yarn and thread tail onto tapestry needle. Draw tail through rem sts 2 times, pull tight, fasten off.
Right Index finger:
Place 10 sts from back of hand on a dpn then place rem 10 sts from palm on a separate dpn.
Left Index finger:
Place 10 sts from palm on a dpn then place rem 10 sts from back of hand on a separate dpn.
For both Right and Left Index
Finger:
With RS facing, join new yarn by picking up and knitting 1 st in the 1st CO st at the base of middle finger. K10 from first dpn, K 10 from second dpn, pick up and knit 1 more st in rem CO st at base of middle finger (22 sts) Arrange sts evenly on 3 dpns and join for working in the round. Work even until index finger measures about $1~\%^{\ast}$ Or it is 1" less than desired total length. Dec as for top of middle finger. Cut yarn and thread tail onto tapestry needle. Draw tail through rem sts 2 times, pulltight, fasten off.
Right and Left Thumb:
Divide 27 held gusset sts as evenly on 3 dpn. With RS facing, join new yarn by picking up 1 st at center stitch cast on above thumb. Pick up another stitch in next cast on edge. Pick up one more stitch from back of hand side (from palm side on left glove) to eliminate any gap (3 stitches picked up so far). Knit 27 thumb sts, then pick up and knit 1 st from edge of palm sts (from back of hand for left glove) to eliminate gap, then pick up last stitch in cast on edge (32 sts on needles.) Join for working in the round and work as follows: Round 1: decrease; K1, ssk, knit to last 2 sts, K2tog (30 sts rem.) Rounds 2-4: Knit Round 5: Repeat dec rnd (28 sts rem) Rnd 6: Knit Repeat rounds 5 & 6 six more times (16 sts rem) Repeat decrease round every round 4 more times (no rounds worked even in between) (8 sts rem) Cut yarn and finish as for little finger. Weave in all ends and wet-block.
Choose finger chart pattern from those I have included or create your own. As with all color patterns, the stitch repeat should be a multiple of the total stitches on your needles. When you begin the decrease for the fingertips, you may either choose to "fudge" the pattern on the inner edges of the fingers or change to a stripe or solid pattern for the tips. The patterns work well over 20 - 22 sts.
