Other tools: Stitch marker, darning needle Gauge: 16 sts x 12 rounds = 4" square Abbreviations used: k- knit k2tog - knit two stitches together p - purl NOTE:
Begin pattern:
Using 7 mm circular needles, cast on 50 stitches. Place stitch marker to indicate beginning of round and join to begin knitting in the round. Take care to not twist your stitches. Ribbed Band: [k1,p1] around. Continue until band measures 1.5" from cast-on edge.
Body of Hat:
Changing to 9 mm needles, knit one round. Then continue with the following two rounds. 1. [K1, pl] around. 2. Knit all stitches. Alternating these two rounds, work until the hat measures 8" from cast-on edge. This results in a loose-fitting hat that is slightly slouchy. If you wish a closer fitting hat, stop at 7". If you want a hat that slouches a lot, knit to 9 or 10". Decreases to form crown: (change to dp needles as needed) 1. [K3, k2tog] around - 40 sts remain 2. [K1, p1, k2, p1, k1, p1, k1] around. 3.
