Curly scarf/cowl
designed by Zsuzsanna Makai This curly scarf/cowl was designed to match the Curly hat (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/curlyhat), so it is a crocheted version of Annas's lovely knitted Curly scarf (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/curl y-scarf-5). This pattern allows you to make a scarf/cowl with curls, while changing the width of the scarf/cowl to your liking. This isn't crocheted by rounds, it is crocheted row by row. So first you should imagine, what kind of scarf or cowl you want to crochet. How wide and how long should it be, where should it be wider, where thinner. You may play with the width, it can change many-many times! Then you crochet according to the pattern, even, increasing or decreasing where youwant. If you want a cowl, the number of the increasing rows and the number of the decreasing rows must be the same. After the last row, the two ends can be stitched together. Hook size: whatever is recommended for your yarn Yarn: I used worsted weight yarn, but you are free to use any kind of yarn! It would be a perfect warm cowl for the winter from worsted weight wool yarn or lovely light scarf in every season from a fingering bamboo/cotton yarn!

Pattern:
Note: If you would like a softer scarf, use a hook size that is larger then recommended! Foundation Row: The scarf/cowl can be started in two different ways: version A) Crochet a starting chain the width you would like the scarf without curls, ch6 more. Turn, Patt1. version B) Crochet a foundation double crochet row the width you would like the scarf without curls, then 2 foundation tr, 2 foundation dtr, 2 foundation trtr, turn
Work even:
Repeat Patt2, Patt1 as many times as the even section should be After a Patt2 Row crochet (IncPatt1, Patt2) as many times as you like, depending on how wide you want the scarf to be.
Decrease:
After a Patt2 Row crochet (DecPatt1, Patt2) as many times as you like, depending on how thin you want the scarf to be. If you want a cowl, make sure the number of the increasing rows and the number of the decreasing rows are equal. You should end with Patt1. Joining the seams: with the first and last rows together, be carefull not to twist the scarf, unless you want a mobius cowl. The stitches should be worked first into the corresponding stitch of the last row, but before finishing it, i.e. before the last hook drawing - (when only 2 loops are on the hook) - you should hook in the corresponding stitch of row 1, hook from the back to the front, yarn over and draw the hook through the two loops on the hook. It makes a seam at one of the side of the scarf. (picture)

So crochet Patt2 that way. Fasten off weave ends. Then turn the cowl out, and enjoy your scarf or cowl! If you have any question or remark do not hesitate to write me to zsuzsanna.makai@gmail.com! Makai Zsuzsanna
