DESIGNER NOTES

Vest is knit in one piece up to the underarms, then divided for upper sections. Buttonholes are worked within the body of the vest so that no finishing is needed other than joining the shoulders and attaching the pocket. ABBREVIATIONS K: Knit K2tog: Knit 2 stitches together. TECHNIQUES

ThreeNeedleBind off With stitches on 2 needles, place RS together. \*K2tog (1 st from each needle); repeat from \* once. \*\*Pass first stitch of right hand needle over second stitch (1 stitch bound off), knit next 2 stitches together; repeat from \*\* until desired stitches have been bound Off.

INSTRUCTIONS Cast on 109 sts. ++ Buttonhole Row: Work in Broken Rib to last 4 sts, yo, k2tog, k2. Work in Broken Rib across all stitches until body measures 61/2" from cast on edge -- while working a Buttonhole Row on 4th, 22nd and 40th rows. End with a WS row. Divide for Armholes Next RS row: Work in established pattern across 25 sts, bind off 4 sts, k51, place remaining stitches on holder for left front. Turn work. Back Work on 51 back sts only, continueing in established Broken Rib pattern while decreasing 1 st at each edge every RS row twice. (47 sts remaining.) Work even until back measures 4" from underarm. Place stitches onholder. Left Front Replace Left Front stitches to working needle and attach yarn at armhole edge from RS. Bind off 4 sts at the underarm, knit to end. Continue in established Broken Rib pattern while decreasing 1 st at armhole edge every RS row twice and at neck edge every RS row 11 times. (12 sts remaining.) Work even until front measures same as back to shoulder. Right Front Attach yarn at armhole edge from Ws. Continue in established Broken Rib pattern across remaining 25 sts while decreasing 1 st at armhole edge every RS row twice and at neck edge every RS row 11 times. (12 sts remaining.) Work even until front measures same as back to shoulder.

FINISHING

Join first shoulder using Three Needle Bind Off, bind off center 23 sts of back neck in the normal manner, then bind off remaining shoulder stitches using Three Needle Bind Off. Block. Attach buttons. Pocket Cast on 11 sts. Work in Stockinette stitch for 10 rows. Work in Broken Rib for 2 rows.Bind off. With tapestry needle and matching yarn, sew pocket to lower left front.
