Sizes: Newborn to 3 Months (6"); 12 to 36 Months (7") This hat has some stretch. The measurements given are the unstretched size.
Materials:
Crochet Hook N (9mm) or size to obtain gauge Bulky Weight Yarn - Bernat Baby Blanket, White Yarn Needle Scissors
Abbreviations:
ch - chain sc - single crochet sc2tog - single crochet decrease hdc - half double crochet dc - double crochet dc2tog - double crochet decrease sl st - slip stitch st(s) - stitch(es)
Gauge:
4dc & 2 rows = 2.75 inches (Please note: everyone's gauge/tension can vary. You may need to adjust your hook size to achieve the correct gauge.)
Notes:
Pattern begins in rounds, then continues in rows at row 3. Beginning chain does not count as stitch. See Stitch Guide after pattern for instructions on Popcorn Stitch and all other stitches.
Instruetions
Hat (Newborn - 3 Months):
Rnd 1: Work 10dc in Magic Ring; join with sl st in first dc. (10) Rnd 2: Ch2, 2dc in next 8 sts, turn (16) Row 3: Ch2, \*dc in st, back puff popcorn in next st; rep from \* across, dc in last st (9dc, 7 popcorn) Row 4: Ch2, \*front puff popcorn in st, dc in next st; rep from \* across, dc in last st (8dc, 8 popcorn) Row 5: repeat row 3 Row 6: hdc in each st across (16) Finish. Work over end in next step.

Straps and edge:
Ch 30, connect with a hdc to front corner. Hdc evenly around bottom of hat for about 10/11 sts. When you get to the back 6sts, dc2tog x3. Continue with hdc around rest of the bottom 10/11 sts. You should end up with 23-25 sts around the bottom. At the other corner, ch 30. Finish. Weave in ends.
Hat (12 - 36 Months)
Rnd 1: Work 1idc in Magic Ring; join with sl st in first dc. (11) Rnd 2: Ch2, 2dc in next 9 sts, turn (18) Row 3: Ch2, \*dc in st, back puff popcorn in next st; rep from \* across, dc in last st (10dc, 8 popcorn) Row 4: Ch2, \*front puff popcorn in st, dc in next st; rep from \* across, dc in last st (9dc, 9 popcorn) Rows 5 & 6: repeat rows 3 & 4 Row 7: hdc in each st across (18) Finish.

Ch 35, connect with a hdc to front corner. Hdc evenly around bottom of hat for about 11/12 sts. When you get to the back 6sts, dc2tog x3. Continue with hdc around rest of the bottom 11/12 sts. You should end up with 25-27 sts around the bottom. At the other corner, ch 35. Finish. Weave in ends.
Ears (All Sizes, Make 2):
1: Ch 6. Sc in second ch from hook and next 4 sts, work other side of ch (don't work over end) and sc next 4 sts. 3sc in last st. Do not sl st. (12) 2: Sc next 4 sts, sc2tog, sc in next 10 sts, slst. Finish, leaving a few inches for tieing. Pull the end through the bottom. Use both ends to tie and secure ears to hat. I attach above the first popcorn on row 4. Weave in ends.

Yarn over, insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and draw up loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over and draw through all 3 loops.
Double eroehet
Yarn over, insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and draw up loop (3 loops on hook), [yarn over and draw through 2 loops] twice.
Double crochet deerease (de2tog)
Yarn over, insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and draw up loop, (3 loops on hook), yarn over and draw through 2 loops (2 loops on hook), yarn over, insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and draw up loop (4 loops on hook), yarn over and draw through 2 loops, yarn over, draw through remaining 3 loops.
Magie adjustable ring
Make a loop with your yarn leaving 3" long tail. Insert hook in center of loop, yarn over and draw up loop. Yarn over and pull through loop to make your first chain. (Do not count this as your first st) Continue to crochet over the loop and the yarn tail until you have the required number of sts for your first round.
