It's cold this time ofyear in Ohio --very cold, and verygray.Aswesufferedaweekofsub-zero temperatures,Ibemoaned myutter lackof warmblackscarves.Butbecauseblackonitsown tendstowashoutmy complexion(especially whenthere'snosunlighttospeakof),Iwanted somecolor toperk itup. This scarfis the result: a luxe union of ultra-warm and super-soft bulky black yarn and oh-so-interesting colorand texture-changing yarns. It's a simple design that looks much harder -- and more expensive!-- than it is. Approximately 250yards bulky weight yarn, preferably with some mohair or a slightlyfuzzy texture(shown is Filatura di CrosaLove) Approximately 2ooyards Red Heart Boutique Magical (shown are twocolorways:about12oyards of HocusPocus and about 60yardsofFortuneTeller) 8mm (L) crochethook Tapestryneedle Gauge is not important for this project. If you find the starting count too short or too long for your taste, feel free to adjust it; because you'll be working into every stitch, you may adjust by anynumber.

You are welcome to sell items that you make, but please credit me as the patterndesigner.Thankyou! You will start with your main color yarn (referred to as MC), shown as the black yarn in the photo. If you are using two colorways of Magical (or a similar yarn), they will be distinguished as V1 (you'll need about 120 yards) and V2 (about 6o yards). You may also use one variegated yarn. This pattern uses Foundation Single Crochet; I find it helps to even the sides of scarves, especially when they're designed lengthwise.I found this FSCtutorial from theFuture Girl blog very helpful: http://www.futuregirl.com/craft_blog/20o9/3/tutorial-foundation-single-crochet.aspx. However, there are alternate directions if you prefer to use the standard chain to start.I'd advise either chaining loosely orgoingupahooksizetohelpeven thelengthofthesidesofthescarf. Beginning: Using MC, FSC 150. (Alternately, chain 151; SC into the second chain from the hook, then SC into each chain to the end of the row.)
