Abbreviations
ch = chain; hdc = half double crochet ; dc = double crochet; sl st = slip stitch; yo = yarn over 1st round cluster = \*Yo, insert hook into ring, yo, draw yarn through, yo, draw through 2 loops on hook \*, repeat from \* to \* 2 more times. Yo and draw through all 4 loops. set-up cluster = \*Yo, insert hook in same stitch where you joined round with slip stitch, yo, draw yarn through the stitch, yo, draw through 2 loops on hook \*, repeat from \* to \* 1 more time. Yo and draw through all 3 loops (this counts as first cluster). cluster = \*Yo, insert hook in stitch, yo, draw yarn through the stitch, yo, draw through 2 loops on hook \*, repeat from \* to \* 2 more times. Yarn over and draw through all 4 loops. Gauge: In cluster stitch, 7 clusters and 6 chain-2 spaces = 4 inches.
To CROCHET
Note: This hat is crocheted from the top down.

Main part of hat
On next round, chain 2, work set-up cluster. \*Chain 2, work cluster in next cluster,\* repeat \*to\* around. Chain 2. Join with a slip stitch into top of chain-2. Repeat this round 8 (9, 10) more times or until hat measures 8% (9, 9) inches from beginning.
Work band
On next round, chain 2, hdc around (in each cluster and in each ch-2), skipping about every 10th stitch to decrease to approximately 59 (61, 63) stitches. Try hat on. If you want to tighten band, decrease more stitches on next round as needed. On next round, hdc in each hdc, decreasing more if needed. Work 3 more hdc rounds or to desired length. Break yarn and draw through.
FINISHING
Weave in all ends. TFG
