A sassy, frilly accent piece just for fun!

Designed and knit by Diane L. Augustin

Materials:

1 skein of Trendsetter, Cha Cha, 1 skein of Berroco, Lustra (or approximately 150 yds. of any worsted weight yarn) and size 9 circular knitting needles, 40 inches in length or longer. Cha Cha is a wide, flat ribbon yarn made of wool and acrylic. Attached to one side of it are little boxes of strong, thin yarn that you knit into. To cast on: Fold over the edge and overlap 2 boxes to tuck in frayed edge. Continue cast on by slipping single boxes onto your needle from the back to the front for the desired number of stitches.

Directions:

Cast on 200stitches. Rows 1-3: Knit through the top of each box. Decrease evenly over the next five rows to end up with 120 stitches at the end of Row 8. Row 4: Knit, decreasing every 20th stitch. (Knit two together to decrease.) 190 stitches remain. Row 5: Knit, decreasing every 15th stitch. (Knit two together to decrease.) 177 stitches remain. Row 6: Knit, decreasing every 10th stitch. (Knit two together to decrease.) 159 stitches remain.

Row 7: Knit, decreasing every 7th stitch. (Knit two together to decrease.) 136 stitches remain. Row 8: Knit, decreasing evenly to 120 stitches. (Knit two together to decrease.) Continue knitting until all the cha cha is used, remembering to fold over the cha cha yarn and knit the last two stitches doubled. Slip to the center ten stitches. Begin knitting Lustra on stitch 56. You will be adding Lustra yarn from the middle of your work in short rows, starting with the ten center stitches and knitting three stitches from the boxes at the end of every row until all the boxes have been knit. This creates a deeper center and semi-circular shape. Knit the next ten stitches with Lustra, turn your work and knit back. When you get to the end of these ten stitches, knit the next three stitches (boxes), turn and knit back. \*When you get to the end of the row, knit the next three stitches (boxes), turn and knit back.\* Repeat this process until all the Cha Cha stitches have been knit or "gobbled up". Last 12 rows: Knit all rows, decreasing 1 stitch at the beginning of each row. (Knit two together one time at the beginning of the next 12 rows.) Bind off using this method: K2, \*Slip both stitches back to the left needle, Knit them TOG through the back, K 1, repeat from \* Fasten scarf with a shawl pin in many different ways for a stunning accessory.
