Ribbed Beanie by Gralina Frie

A quick knit with a simple, yet eye-catching pattern. This is a new, tighter version of the originally published pattern. The recommended yarn grows a lot after use and I've recalculated the number of stitches. If you're in doubt about the sizing - cast on more stitches. As long as you can divide the number of stitches by 4, the pattern will work! You should stay somewhere between 80-88 stitches to get the tight fit though. If you want the fit more slouchy - you should cast on 96-100 stitches instead and add some length to it before decreasing. Materials: 1-2 skeins of M&K Eco Ull or 1 skein of Hjertegarn Incawool, US 8 - 5.0mm DPN needles or size needed to obtain gauge (l had Us 7 - 4.5mm but I knit loosely), Tapestry needle Gauge: 16 sts to 10 cm/ 4" with 5.0mm DPN needles over stockinette sts. Size: to fit head size 55-60cm. Finished measurements: Circumference cast on edging 53cm (unstretched) and length 23 cm. Abbreviations: k=knit, p=purl, st(s)=stitch(es), stockinette sts=knit 1 row, purl 1 row (only needed for gauge swatch), k2tog=knit 2 together, p2tog=purl 2 together, \*\*=repeat instructions between the \* across the round Cast on 84 sts and work 1x1 rib, k1, p1, for 6 rounds. to a pattern of k3, p1 and keep knitting until hat measures 17 cm (from cast on). Then decrease as follows: Round 1: \* k3, p1, k2tog, k1, p1 \* Work 2 even rounds (=without decreasing) Round 4: \* k2tog, k1, p1, k2, p1 \* Work 2 even rounds Round 7: \* k2, p1, k2tog, p1 \* Work 2 even rounds Round 10: \* k2tog, p1, k1, p1 \* Work 2 even rounds Round 13: \* k1, p1, p2tog \* (Work 2 even rounds) optional - depending on row gauge. Round 16: \* k2tog, p1 \* Cut yarn and pull taut twice, using a tapestry needle, through the live remaining stitches. Weave in the ends and turn the hat inside out!
