An Introduction
The Jos (short for Johannes) is a special hat..and a special story. Jos Clarbout was a young man who unexpectedly and tragically died August 1999. He was a charismatic person in life and continues to be after death. I would never have had the courage to trust myself about knitting and designing if it hadn't been for Jos and his "yossel's Toessels." The incredible thing is I have never met, spoken or had any communication with him at all. You can see his story at http://sepwww.stanford.edu/sep/jon/family/jos/ . Please think about those who have influenced the way you view life while you knit this hat, especially those no longer with us. Then consider giving your hat to someone who needs it - it is, afterall,"like se...on yourhead." Marta Poling Copyright @ 2002, Marta Poling. All rights reserved. Body of Hat: Change to double pointed needles. Knit 1 row, dividing stitches evenly. Join. Begin knitting in the round. Knit 24 (18) rows. Note: You may notice this is stockinette stitch. However, the right side is the reverse of the brim's right side. This allows the brim to be turned up in a cuff. When looking at your work, you should see the wrong side of the brim with stockinette stitch above it.
