Rasputin By Sam Parfibf Skil Level ★★☆☆☆ Speed ★★★☆☆ Ra, Ra, Rasputin, lover of the Russian queen... Really, what could a Russian queen love more than a long, snuggly, short row shawl? Yarn: Laceweight version: Stocking Stitch Studios BFL Lace (800m/100g) in (MC) Silver (1 skein) and (CC) Blue Raspberry (1 Skein) Fingering weight version: (MC) Adriafil Genziana (185m/50g) in Black (2 skeins) and (CC) Schoppel-Wolle Zauberball (420m/100g) in Fuchsienbeet (1 skein) DK weight version: Garnstudio DROPS Merino Extra Fine (105m/50g) in (MC) Grey (3 skeins) and (CC) Purple (4 skeins) Yarn amounts given are for an extra wide scarf with 15 total short row segments. Needles: Laceweight version: 3.25mm Fingering weight version: 3.25mm
DK weight version: 4mm
Notions: Tapestry needle, scissors Gauge: 26sts x 42rows in stocking stitch using fingering weight yarn and 3.25mm needles Notes: This scarf / shawl is worked in 2 row stripes of 2 colours, MC and CC. The short row segment is worked in the CC ONLY. It is advised that you do not pull the yarn tight at the start of the row as this will affect the shape of the shawl when blocking. Special Instructions: w+t: Wrap and turn - Work to where the instructions say 'w+t'. Keeping the yarn in front, slip the next stitch purlwise onto right hand needle. Take the yarn to the back between the needles and slip the stitch back on to the left hand needle. Bring the yarn to the front between the needles, as if to continue purling, turn the work so that the RS is facing you, ready to work a knit row. Working the w+t together: Work to the wrapped stitch. Pick up the wrapped stitch with the right needle from back to front. Slip the wrap over to the left hand needle and purl the wrap together with the stitch it wrapped.
Tutorial here:
http: / /www.purlbee.com/short-rowtutorial - you want purl side for each part. Alternatively you can work German short rows: Work to 'w+t'. Instead of wrapping and turning, turn your work now. Bring the yarn from the back to the front between the needles and slip the last st worked from the left to right needle. Bring the yarn around the right needle to pull up the legs of the stitch onto the needle. Work the next row. To work these stitches together purl into them as if to p2tog. To celebrate the launch of Stocking Stitch Studios I will be giving away a skein of yarn to two people who complete the shawl by midnight (your time) 30th November 2013. All you have to do to enter is tag your project on Ravelry with the tag 'RaRaRasputin' and you will be entered into the draw. One entry per project, if you knit two this will count as two entries. This is open to everyone, provided there are no issues posting to your country. Good luck!
