Body
Change to circular needle and place marker to indicate end of round. Work spiral cable pattern as follows: Round 1 (setup): $\tt{*p1}$ , k4, p1, k14; repeat from \*. Round 2: $*_{\mathsf{K}}$ to first purl st; m1, p1, k4, p1, ssk; repeat from \*. Round 3 (and all following odd rounds): $*_{\mathsf{K}}$ to first purl st; p1, k4, p1; repeat from \*. Round 4: $*_{\mathsf{K}}$ to first purl st; m1, p1, C4F, p1, ssk; repeat from \*. ${\mathsf{C4F}}=$ slip 2 st to cable needle and hold in front, k2, k2 from cable needle There are four pattern repeats on each round. The m1/ssk combination occurs on every even round and shifts the cable pattern one stitch to the left. The cable occurs on every fourth round. Note: At the point when the cabling crosses over the end-of-round marker, you will need to. manually move the marker one stitch to the right on the even rows. You may find it easier to knit this section with a marker in the end stitch (e.g., split ring, safety pin) instead of between stitches. Continue in pattern until the length from the bottom purl ridge is about $24"$ , ending on Round 4 of the cable pattern.
On the next round, work buttonholes for the cord closure as follows:
Next round: K to first purl st; \*p1, k4, p1, k2, [YO, k2tog, k1] four times; repeat from \* until each section between the cables has four buttonholes, going past the marker and continuing into the next round if necessary. Continue in pattern for about 2 more inches, ending on Round 1 of the cable pattern.
Finishing
BO all st in pattern. Use the tapestry needle to weave in ends. Use the cast-on tail to sew closed any hole remaining in the middle of the bag bottom. Thread the drawstring cord through the buttonholes in the top of the bag. Thread both toggles onto the drawstring and knot the ends of the cord together. Use the first toggle to close the top of the bag. When your mat is in the bag, secure the loop between the end knot and the second toggle around the bottom of the bag so you can sling it over your shoulder.

Take the bag to yoga class, and achieve better flexibility and inner peace. Please send any questions or comments to arcadienne on Ravelry.
