Flower Blues Shawl: A Detailed Knitting Pattern with Ombre Effect and Ruffle

Materials:

Yarn: Soft Dream BBB filati (70% Mohair 30% Silk), 220 m in 25 gr ball - 4 balls A - grey colour - 1 ball B-blue - 2 ball C - sky-blue - 2 balls Possible yarn substitutions: Rowan Kidsilk Haze, Yarna Super Royal, Kid Seta de Lux ( Italgamma Filati Fantasia) etc. Needles: size 5 mm (Us 8). Tapestry needle for weaving in ends. Gauge: 16 sts and 26 rows make up 10x10 cm. square 0ver st.st. Please take your time to check gauge, especially when using yarn substitutes. Adjust needle size if necessary.

Notes:

1. This shawl has a triangle shape and is knitted from the bottom to the top. 2.The ruffle is cast on over the lower edge. 3. Begin and end each row with selvage stitch - slipped at the beginning of the row, knitted at the end of the row.

Abbreviations and techniques:

Stuckimette stici - killt ull lle ligill siue, pull ull tle wiung siue RS - right side of work Ws - wrong side of work K-knit P-purl YO - yarn over M1 - make 1 st, an increase Selvage stitch (Ss) - slip 1st stitch knitwise at the beginning of the row, knit last stitch at the end of the row. Shetland lace is worked as per chart. Chart includes right and wrong side rows.

Shawl:

With yarn A held double CO 3 sts Row 1: SS, yo, k1, yo,k1 = 5 sts Row 2: Ss, yo, purl to the last st, yo, k1 = 7 sts. Row 3: SS, yo, knit to the last st, k1 = 9 sts. Work as set by rows 2 and 3 another 33 rows = 75 sts. End with WS row. For colour change brake off one yarn and attach yarn B - now you're working with yarns A and B held together. Next RS row: SS, yo, work 12 repeats of Chart A, yo, k1. Work 4 rows of the chart, continuing side increases as set above =85 sts. Work in stokinette stitch for 19 rows=123 sts, end with WS row. Break off yarn A and attach yarn B - now you're working with yarn B held double. Next RS row: SS, yo, work 20 repeats of Chart A, yo, k1. Work in stokinette stitch for 19 rows = 171 sts, end with wS row. Break off one yarn B and attach yarn C - now you're working with yarns B and C held together. Next RS row: Ss, yo, work 28 repeats of Chart A, yo, k1. Work all rows of the chart, continuing side increases as set above. Work in stokinette stitch for 19 rows, end with WS row = 217 sts. Break off yarn B and attach yarn C - now you're working with yarn C held double. Next RS row: SS, yo, k5, place 17 repeats of Chart B (begin with Chart 1, make 15 repeats of Chat 2, end with Chart 3), k5, yo, k1. Work all rows of the chart, continuing side increases as set above. Cast off loosely on the right side. For the ruffle cast on with yarn C held double on the lower sides of the shawl and on the RS as follows: Work in each hole formed by yarn overs 3 stitches (k1, yo, k1). Repeat to the end. Next WS row: SS, yo, purl to the last st, yo, k1.. Next RS row: SS, yo, k2, M1, repeat to the end, end with k2, yo, k1. Work in st st for another 8 rows, increasing at both ends of each row as set above. Next RS row: SS, yo, place 81 repeats of Chart A, yo, k1. Work all 4 rows of the chart, continuing side increases as set above. Knit 1 RS row. Cast of knitwise in the next WS row. Break off yarn, weave in ends. Soak the shawl in lukewarm water using mild shampoo or wool conditioner. Block the shawl.
