Similar javahued colorways in Jasper are #3852 embers and #3840 brown santiago.) 1 set $\mathrm{US}\neq\!5/3^{-}\,3/4\,\mathrm{mm}$ straight needles 1 set US #7/4-1/2 mm double-point needles 16-inch US #7/4-1/2 mm circular needle 24-inch 1 $\mathrm{\DeltaJS\neq7/4^{-1/2}\,m m}$ circular needle yarn needle cable needle stitch marker GAUGE 18 sts/22 rows $=$ 4" in stockinette stitch

With US#5 needles, cast on 12 sts Row 1: k9,p3 Row 2 (and all other WS rows): k3, p9 Row 3: sl 3 sts to cable needle and hold in front of work, k3, k3 sts from cable needle, k3, p3 Row 5: same as Row 1 Row 7: k3, sl 3 sts to cable needle and hold in back of work, k3, k 3 sts from cable needle, p3 Repeat Row 1-8 15 more times. Bind off and cut yarn leaving a 12-inch tail. Using a yarn needle, stitch the top edge of the braided band to the bottom edge with right side facing out forming a loop.

Crown:

Turn the loop on its side with the right side facing, and using the smaller US #7 circular needle pick up 8o sts evenly along the purled edge. Place a stitch marker to mark the beginning of the round. Round 1:Knit Round 2: [k1, kfb] around (120 sts total) Work in stockinette stitch for five inches.

Crown shaping:

Round 1: [k1o, k2tog] around Round 2: Knit Round 3: [k9, k2tog] around Round 4: Knit Round 5: [k8, k2tog] Round 6: Knit Round 7: [K7, k2tog] around Round 8: Knit Round 9: [K6, k2tog] around Round 10: Knit Round 11: [K5, k2tog] around Round 12: Knit Round 13: [K4, k2tog] around Round 14: Knit Round 15: [K3, k2tog] around Round 16: Knit Round 17: [K2, k2tog] around Round 18: Knit Round 19: [K1, k2tog] around Round 20: Knit Round 21: [K2tog] around

FINISHING

Cut the yarn and thread it through the loops remaining on the needles. Pull the loops tight and weave the end in securely. Weave in all ends.
