A-LINENLACE TOP Knitting Pattern by Louise Lamarche - Detailed Instructions for Various Sizes

Pattern illustration

A-LINENLACE TOP

By Louise Lamarche A beautiful, gracious and lovely A-line top. This thigh-length tank looks lovely over a camisole or without one because the lace and cables are positioned for good coverage. Knit in linen, the stitches are crisp and open. Once blocked the knit will stretch and drape nicely. The front panel is charted but there are also rowby-row written instructions. The back is knitted in stockinette. This top is knitted in the round to the armholes, then divided. The front and back are worked in rows to the shoulders and are then joined with a 3-needle bind-off. A crochet trim around the armholes and a knitted trim around the neckline. The sample is knit in a size 34 (86 cm)as shown on the display photo for the intended fit. Additional photos show the same tank on a size 32 (82cm) and a size 36 (92) to help you decide on the fit you like. Bust sizes: 82 (86, 92, 96,102, 106, 112, 117) cm 32 (34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 46) inches

Gauge

19 sts 35 rows in stockinette before blocking 21 sts 30 rows in stockinette after blocking 19 sts in cable/lace before and after blocking The measurements have taken into consideration that linen will stretch by about 10% in length and reduce by 5% in width. It needs to be seriously blocked to bring it back to the knitted dimensions. If you plan to knit this in a less stretchy yarn, you may want to make it longer. If you want it longer or turn it into a tunic, please refer to GUIDELINE FOR MODIFYING LENGTH on page 2.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

It is easier to keep track of your knitting if you place markers each side of the Panel Section and between the cables and the lace. If you work from the charts, do not print pages 4-8 of this document, however do read written instructions for rows 133 and 134 (bind off at underarm). The front panel has been broken down into 4 charts. You may wish to tape them together. The row-by-row instructions and the lace charts only cover the FRONT LACE PANEL (9O sts) starting and ending with a knit stitch. Increases will be done between this knit stitch and the adjoining purl stitch and you need to return the marker to its original position after each increase. To complete the tank, you need to add between 3 to 20 sts to each side of the knit stitch of the front panel depending on the size you are knitting. The back is all knit in stockinette. The band around the neckline is knit from picked up stitches and the armhole bands are crocheted (sc's only). If you do not wish to crochet around the armholes, I recommend that you purl and not slip the first stich around the armhole on the wrong side of work.

GUIDELINESFORMODIFYINGTHELENGTHOFTHELACETOP

Pattern repeat rows 2 to 13 = 3.3 cm If you wish to add 5 cm in length: knit rows 8 to 13 once, then rows 2 to 13 once and then follow the regular pattern starting at row 2. If you wish to add 10 cm in length: knit rows 2 to 13 three (3) times and then follow the regular pattern starting at row 2. To keep the A-line shape you should add 4 stitches to your cast-on (1 st each side of both front and back). When you reach 10 cm, you will need to decrease this additional stitch on each side of the front and back. If you wish to add 15 cm in length: knit rows 8 to 13 once, then knit rows 2 to 13 four (4) times and then follow the regular pattern starting at row 2. To keep the A-line shape you should add 4 stitches to your cast-on (1 st each side of both front and back). When you reach 12 cm, you will need to decrease this additional stitch on each side of the front and back. If you wish to add more than 15 cm: since the first 5 cm of the lace and cable pattern does not slant towards the center, you do not wish to add too long a straight line down the front. I would suggest that you add 15 cm in length as per above instructions and knit one size larger. When blocking, you will be able to adjust the width to your bust size and the additional fabric will naturally lengthen.

INSTRUCTIONS

With 3.5mm, C0 186 (194, 202, 208, 218, 228, 240, 250) sts. Join in the round. Place a marker at the beginning of the round and another one after stitch 96 (100, 104, 108, 112, 116, 124, 130) to divide the front and back. Number of stitches for the back: 90 (94, 98, 100, 106, 112, 116, 120). Set up-row (row1): P3 (5,7,9, 11, 13, 17,20) - pm - LACE PANEL: P2, K86, P2 - pm - P3 (5,7,9,11, 13, 17, 20) = FRONT P to end for back

Other rows:

Knit the required stitches for your size before the PANEL, follow the FRONT PANEL CHART (row 2 - 134) or the LACE PANEL INSTRUCTIONS (9O sts), knit the required sts for your size after the panel, knit to end for the back. Size 82 : Skip rows 2 to 7 unless you want a longer top (+2 cm) At the same time, you will decrease one stitch on each side of the front and back at 12 cm (row 40), 22 cm (row 73) and 32cm (row 105). You may wish to highlight these rows as a reminder as decreases are not indicated on the chart or the written instructions. To decrease: at the beginning of the row K2T, knit to 2 sts before side marker and SSK, slip marker, K2T, knit to 2 sts before end of row marker and SSK.

ARMHOLE TRIMS

If you are not familiar with crochet borders, please view this video for the SC (single crochet) technique. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_06gqkDpR0 The neat trim around the armholes is crocheted. With a 3.5 mm crochet hook, do a SC (single crochet) in each of the slipped stitches around the armhole. Join last SC with first SC by slipping Crochet into the first SC and pulling a yarn through the stitch on the crochet. Turn the work and do another row of SC. Join last SC with first SC and close off. NECKBAND starting at left shoulder : Pick up the required number of stitches around neckline as follows:
