Row 3: k1, k yo through the back loop, k to yo, k yo through the back loop, k1, repeat for needle 2. Repeat row 2 and 3 until you have 64 sts, 32 sts on each needle. Because of the zig zag pattern's lack of stretch, you will need to increase the instep stitches. Repeat row 2 and 3, 3 times, but increase only on needle 1, knit all stitches on all rows on needle 2. You will now have 38 stitches on needle 1, and 32 stitches on needle 2.

Foot:
Start knitting the pattern part, knitting the zig zag pattern on needle 1, this will be the instep, and knit stiches on needle 2, this will be the sole. Work in pattern until sock measures 4 inches less than the length of your foot. End with row 2 in zig zag pattern.
Gusset increrases:
Knit instep in zig zag pattern, knit sole: Row 1: k instep in pattern, k1, KLl, k to last 2 sts on needle, KRL, k1. Row 2: k instep in pattern, k sole sts. Repeat these two rows until desired length, end with row 2. Continue in ribbing \*k1, p1\*, for 1 inch. Bind off all sts using a stretchy bind off like Jeny's surprisingly stretchy bind off: http: / /knitty.com/ISSUEfall09/FEATjssbo.php or kitchener bind off. Weave in ends and knit the other sock. If you want the zig zag pattern mirrored on the second sock, use the mirrored zig zag pattern instead of the plain zig zag pattern.
