Beachy Wrap
Isn't it time to knit something a little "Beachy"? This project had me searching through all my photos of sand and surf and sun. This is a sunset photo from Ft. Meyers, FL. Enjoy! It'safunwraporcarfknitnaelffringing, feather&fanpatternperfect toossonasthesunset. Karma is a chunky cotton yarn that knits up quickly with size 11 needles. It is 14" deep x 56" long plus fringe. Gayge is 3sts./in. after blocking.
Materials
Four hanks of Berroco, Karma, 100% Cotton. Each hank is approximately 66 yards. (264 yards total) This project used 4 different colors. Note: For more depth, feel free to add another skein of yarn. Also, consider knitting the wrap in all one color. Size 11 circular needles in a 32" inch length. Two ring stitch markers in one color and six in a different color. Stitch holder. Yarn needle. Color Key Color 1 - Lapis 3412 Color 2 - Aquamarine 3480 Color 3 - Ultramarine Violet 3425 Color 4 -Malachite3424 stitchez K2 TOG - Knit 2 together YO - Yarn Over Feather and Fan Pattern Row 1: Knit (rs) Row 2: Purl (ws) Row 3: \*K1, [K2TOG] 3 times, [YO, K1] 6 times, [K2T0G] 3 times, K1. The wrap is knit lengthwise, from the bottom up, with five knit stitches at the beginning and end of each row, which will be unraveled during the bind off to create looped fringe. The fringe will be loops with the exception of where the colors are joined at the same edge. Leave approximately 8" of yarn when one color is finished and another color is begun. There will be three sets of single strands of fringe along one edge.
Using the long tail cast on method, cast on 150 stitches
(You will need approximately 8 yards of yarn for the tail) Note: In the first row, place a marker after the first five knit stitches, in betweer pattern repeats of 20 stitches, and before the last five knit stitches. Use a different colored marker to designate the five fringe stitches at the beginning and end of each row. Remember to slip the markers as the rows are knit. This will keep you on track with the pattern. Row 1-8: Color 1, Lapis 3412: Follow rows 1-4 of the Feather and Fan pattern two times. Remember to knit five stitches at the beginning and end of each row. After Row 8, leave approximately 8" of yarn for fringe. Cut the yarn. Rows 9-16: Color 2 Aquamarine 3480: Leave approximately 8" of yarn for fringe and follow rows 1-4 of the Feather and Fan pattern two times. Remember to knit five stitches at the beginning and end of each row. Rows 17-18: Continue with color 2. Follow rows 1-2 of the Feather and Fan pattern. Remember to knit five stitches at the beginning and end of each row. To finish: Knit five stitches and slip them to a stitch holder.
Relaxed Bind Off
K2, \*Slip both stitches back to the left needle, Knit them TOG through the back, K1, repeat from \* until the last five stitches. Cut tail approximately 8" long and pull it through the last stitch. Weave in the tail.
Fringe
The fringe is unraveled from the top down. Slip the last five stitches 0 the needle and carefully unravel one row at a time, pulling out the loop of fringe. Tie an overhand knot at the top of each fringe, close to the work, as they are unraveled. There will be three places where the colors changed that will have only single strands of yarn. Knot one of each color together and knot the very end of each single strand to prevent fraying.
Blocking
Soak the wrap for fifteen minutes in lukewarm water with a small amount of non-rinsing wash. Squeeze out excess water. Roll it in a towel and squeeze out the excess water. Arrange on a dry towel. Allow dryingflat.
