Palm Tree Amigurumi
Crystal Simpson 2011 Materials: Worsted Weight in Green, Medium Brown, tan or sand color, and small amounts of red, white, and dark brown. 4 or 5mm hook, yarn needle, stuffing, premade eyes or felt. Abbreviations used: ch- Chain sl st- slip stitch sc- single crochet BLO/FLO- back loop only, front loop only sc2tog- single crochet 2 together


Tree: with medium brown, ch 13, sc in first ch to form ring Rnd 1- \*sc in next 2 st, sc in BLO of next 2 st\*, repeat until tree is approximately 8" (13 st) Rnd 2- working in FLO \*sc, ch 3, sc in next st\* repeat around (12 ch 3 loops, 13 sc) Rnd 3- in back loops left unworked on previous row, sc around Rnd 4-7- repeat rounds 2 and 3 twice more Fasten off,Stuff firmly Leaves: Make 7 (you will probably need to make these inside out as the tip is so small, it's easiest to flip right side out after round 4) with green, ch 2, 4 sc in 2nd chain from hook Rnd 1- sc around (4) Rnd 2- sc, 2sc around (6) Rnd 3- sc around (6) Rnd 4- sc, 2sc around (9) Rnd 5- sc around to 3 1/2-4" Fasten off, stuff lightly if desired. Do not overstuff or tree top will be too heavy to stand. Coconut: For face make 1 to act as nose, for plain make 3 With dark brown, ch 2, 6sc in 2nd ch from hook Rnd 1- 2sc, 1sc around (9) Rnd 2- sc around (9) Rnd 3- sc, sc2tog around (6) \*Stuff now\* Rnd 4- sc2tog around (3) With yarn needle, draw yarn through last 3 stitches, pulltight Fastenoff Sand Base: Attach tan with a sl st on bottom of tree, sc around (13) Rnd 1- 2sc in each st around (26) Rnd 2- 2sc in each st around (52) Rnd 3- sc in next 2, 2sc around (78) Rnd 3-5- sc around (78) Rnd 6- sc in next 2, sc2tog around (52) Rnd 7- sc2tog around (26) Rnd 8- sc2tog around (13) \*Stuff now, weigh down with rice, beans, etc\* Rnd 9- sc2tog around, sc in last sc (7) With yarn needle, draw through last 7 stitches, pull tight Fasten off Eyes: Make 2 with white, ch 2, 6sc in 2nd ch from hook Rnd 1- sc, 2sc around (9) Rnd 2- sc, 2sc around, sc in last st (13) Rnd 3- sc around (13) Rnd 4- sc, sc2tog (9) \*stuff now\* Rnd 5- sc2tog around, sc in last st (5) With yarn needle, draw through last 5 stitches, pull tight Fasten off Mouth- With red sc or embroider mouth. Felt could also be used. Assemble leaves side by side, creating a pinwheel type circle by flattening open ends and stitching together. This will create a tapering in effect where leaves are joined. Attach to top of tree. Attach eyes to. top of leaves and use coconut as a nose. If you prefer, make 3 coconuts and leave off eyes and mouth for a more realistic palm tree.
