I've Got My Eye on You YaYaLovesToKnit
This is the 8th pattern for the 2013 hats for kids project. A fun hat featuring a big eyeball at the crown. Imagine a room full of kids wearing hats with various color eyeballs! Size: 16" around the band. This is a size suitable for a child in the 1st or 2nd grade. The hat is stretchable, and can easily be adjusted to a larger size by casting on addition stitches in multiples of 8.

NOTE: When changing yarn colors, be sure to twist the two yarns together to avoid leaving a gap. Yarn: Worsted weight yarn - approximately 90 to 100 yds total. Color A - 1-1/40z Color B - small amount Color C - 1%4 oz Sample hat was knit using Loops & Threads Impeccable in Aran (Color A) and Black (Color B); plus Vanna's Choice in Dusty Blue (Color C). Needles: 16" US 06 circular needle 16" US 08 circular needle US 08 dp needles Other tools: Stitch marker, darning needle Gauge: 16 stitches x 20 rows = 4" square using US 08 in stockinette

k- knit kif/b - knit one stitch front and back k2tog - knit two stitches together p - purl
Begin pattern:
1. Using US 06 circular needle, cast on 72 stitches. Place marker to indicate end of row. Join to begin knitting in the round, taking care to not twist the stitches. 2. [K1, P1] around to form ribbed band. Repeat this round until ribbed band measures 1-1/2" from the cast-on edge. 3. Change to US 08 circular needle. Knit 1 round. 4. [K8, k1fb] around - 80 stitches. 5. Knit in stockinette (knit each round) until 4-1/2" from cast-on edge. 6. Begin decreases to form crown of hat and the eyeball: · Continuing with color A, [K8, k2tog] around. - 72 stitches remain. ·Knit around ·Change to color B. [K7, k2tog] around. - 64 stitches. ·Change to color C and knit around. ·Continuing with color C, [K6, k2tog] around - 56 stitches. ·Knit around. ·[K5, k2tog] around - 48 stitches. Knit around. At this point, the number of stitches has been decreased to the point where the stitches are stretched out on the circular needle, so begin to transfer the stitchestothedp needles. [K4, k2tog] around - 40 stitches. [Knit around. Change to Color B. [K3, k2tog] around - 32 stitches. Knit around. [K2, k2tog] around - 24 stitches. Knit around. [K1, k2tog] around - 16 stitches [K2tog] around - 8 stitches.

7. Cut the yarn leaving at least a 12" yarn end. Using the darning needle, thread the yarn through the remaining 8 stitches; cinch firmly to close opening, and anchor the yarn. g: Weave in all yarn ends. Steam or block the hat if desired
