Hey Jupite
The color of this yarn is named after a particular type of lava flow found in Hawai. Pele is the Hawaian goddess of fire, lightning, volcanoes, and dance. It seems only fiting that the name of this sock patern would have similar origins. Named after the Tori Amos song of the same title, these socks were inspired by the beautiful violence of the goddess Pele, pah hoe hoe lava, and the album Boys for Pele on which "Hey Jupiter" is featured. Materials: dkKnits technicolor smoosh toes ( $75\%$ superwash merino wool, $25\%$ nylon; 440 yd per $1009$ skein), shown in Pa Hoe Hoe Flow. Recommended needles: One 32" US 1 $(2.25\mathsf{m m})$ circularneedle Gauge: Variable based on needle size. Sizes: Foot circumference, unstretched: 7.6" Sizing may be adjusted by increasing needle size or adding selvedge stitches (l would recommend k1tbl, p1 ribbing for a selvedge that matches the pattern). Pattern notes: This pattern is written using the Magic Loop method. Charts and written instructions are provided for the stitch pattern. Due to the ribing, as well as the increases and decreases in this pattern, the sock has a decent amount of stretch.

Inst u...ions
Using your preferred cast on, CO 66 sts. Join in the round and knit in Patterned Ribbing for approximately one inch. Switch to chart. Knit 2 full chart repeats. Knit rows 1-15. Begin working the heel.
Heel flap:
The heel is knit back and forth across one ndl in pattern. All stitches should be slipped purl wise. Row 1: [RS] sl1, k8, [k1tbl, p1] 7x, k1tbl, k9, turn work. Row 2: [WS] sl1, p8, [p1tbl, k1] 7x, p1tbl, p9, turn work. Repeat rows 1 and 2 until you have 15 slipped stitches on each edge. For a higher instep, work additional rows. End with a WS row.
Turning the heel:
Row 1: [RS] sl1, k17, ssk, k1, turn work. Row 2: [WS] sl1, p5, p2tog, p1, turn work. Row 3: sl1, k to one stitch before the gap, ssk, k1, turn work Row 4: sl1, p to one stitch before the gap, p2tog, p1. turnwork Continue in this manner until all stitches have been worked, you should end with a WS row. Proceed to gusset. Note: because the heel flap is knit across 33 sts, one stitch will remain unworked.
Gusset decreases:
Continue kniting the instep sts, while keeping the foot sts in pattern. Decrease as follows: Row 1: Beginning with heel sts, k to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1. Continue foot pattern. k1, ssk, k across heel. Row 2: K all heel sts, continue knitting foot in pattern. Stop decreasing after you have 33 sts for the instep (66 sts total). Continue knitting in pattern until $z"$ from your toe. Sock modeled shows the following on the foot: rows 16-18, 3 full repeats, plus toe ribbing.
Toe Decreases:
Beginning with the instep, decrease as follows, always keeping the middle 15 sts in pattern. Directions are always listed as instep first, followed by foot. The instep (i) will always be decreased the same as Row 1, and is written “as row 1". Foot (f) decreases change with every row, and are written out completely. Row 1: [i] k1, ssk, k to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1. [f k1, ssk, k6 [k1tbl, p1] 7x, k1tbl, k6, k2tog, k1. 2 (and all even rows):[] k. [fl keep in pattern. 3: [] as row 1.
