Materials:
Bernat Handicrafter cotton, or other worsted weight cotton yarn, 160 yds of Off-White (per placemat) Crochet hook size K 18 wooden beads, one-half inch diameter (per placemat) Yarn needle Gauge: $5\;\mathrm{dc}=1.5$ inches; 3 dc $\mathrm{rows}=1.5$ inches Finished mat size: $11.5\mathrm{~x~}18$ inches

Instructions:
You may string beads on yarn before beginning mat, or you may fasten yarn at end of row 16, string beads onto yarn and attach yarn again. NOTE: Ch-3 counts as first dc. Ch49. Row 1: Dc in fourth ch from hook and in each ch across; ch 3, turn. (47 dcs) Rows 2 - 4: Dc in each st across; ch 3, turn. Row5: 2dc, \*skipnext st, work 3 dc innext st, skip next st, d innext st; rpeat from \* acros, ending lst repeat with dc in last 2 sts. Ch 3, turn. (11 three-dc shells) Row 6-8: Dc in each st across; ch 3, turn. Row 9: Repeat row 5. Rows 10-12: Dc in each st across; ch 3, turn. Row 13: Repeat row 5. Rows 14-16: Dc in each st across; ch 3, turn. (Do not turn at end of row 16.) Begin to work in rounds: Beading Rnd: Ch 3, bead dc in same sp, $^{*}3$ dc evenly spaced along end of work, bead dc in next st; repeat from \* along end of mat until 9 beads have been placed. Work 3 dc in same st as last bead dc, dc in each st across placemat, ending with (3 dc, bead dc) in last st. Repeat entire sequence from \* , ending with 2 dc in the first st of this rnd. Join with sl st to top of ch-3. Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in same sp, sc in each st around mat, working 2 sc in each corner st. Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten yarn and weave in ends.
