XO Mitts by Joanne Jongsma

These simple cabled fingerless mitts are great for keeping busy little hands and wrists warm in the winter. One Size: For children approximately between 2 and 8. Yarn: Fingering Weight Gauge: 7 sts, 10 rows over 1 in square Needles: Size 2 circulars, long enough to use magic loop method, cable needle. CO 40 sts. Join for working in the round being careful not to twist. K2, p2 rib for 10 rounds. Round 1: K2, p2, \*(k12), p2, k2, k to end. The following rounds are the same except the part by the star (\*) changes every round according to the XO cable pattern below. 2. k12 3.C6B, C6F 4,5, 6. k12 7. C6B, C6F 8,9, 10. k12 11. C6F, C6B 12,13, 14. k12 15.C6F, C6B 16. k12 C6B: put 3 sts on cable needle, hold to the back of work, k3, then k3 from the cable needle. C6F: put 3 sts on cable needle, hold to the front of work, k3, then k3 from the cable needle. Keep knitting as established until you have 2 O's, and 2 X's (this will be right after finishing round 3). Now turn and work on the wrong side (adjusting pattern accordingly by swapping purling for knitting and vice versa) until the end of the round, and then turn and work the right side (still staying with the established pattern), going back and forth to make the slit for the thumb. Do this for rows 4-16, then do row 1 again, but at the end, do not turn, but join to work in the round again. Do one more round in established pattern (round 2), and then start ribbing (k2, p2)。 Do 7 rounds of the k2, p2 rib and then BO loosely. Weave in ends.
