@2010 VirgKnits94 - Virgadean Richmond This fast and easy adjustable beret will fit most adult heads. Materials: Size K (6.5 mm) crochet hook Lion Brand Homespun 1 skein (Candy Apple) 185 yds./169 m 98% Acrylic, 2% Polyester (Bulky - 5) 1 locking stitch marker, stitch holder or safety pin. Instructions: Hat: Ch6. Join with a slst in the first chain to form a ring. Row 1: Ch 3, make 11 dc in the ring (1"t ch 3 counts as 1 dc), join to top of ch 3. Row 2: Ch 3, make 1 dc in the same space as the ch 3, make 2 dc in the space (between each dc of the previous row - referred to as sp from now on), join. Row 3: Ch 3, make 1 dc in the same space as the ch 3, 1 dc in the next sp, \*make 2 dc in the next sp, 1 dc in the next sp\*, join. Row 4: Ch 3, make 1 dc in the same space as the ch 3, 1 dc in the next 2 sps, \*make 2 dc in the next sp, 1 dc in the next 2 sps\*, join. Row 5: Ch 3, make 1 dc in the same space as the ch 3, 1 dc in the next 3 sps, \*make 2 dc in the next sp, 1 dc in the next 3 sps\*, join. Row 6: Ch 3, make 1 dc in the same space as the ch 3, 1 dc in the next 4 sps, \*make 2 dc in the next sp, 1 dc in the next 4 sps\*, join. Row 7: Ch 3, make 1 dc in the same space as the ch 3, 1 dc in the next 5 sps, \*make 2 dc in the next sp, 1 dc in the next 5 sps\*, join. When making the stitches on each rowwhen ending if there are not enough stitches to complete the number of dc's in each space it does not matter. (Example - if on row 7 there are only 3 spaces left after doing 2 dc in one space then do 1 dc in each of the 3 spaces and join to the top of the ch 3.) Rows 10 - 14: Ch 3, 1 dc in each sp around, join. Row 15: Ch 3, 1 dc in the next 3 sps, skip 1 sp, 1 dc in the next sp, \*1 dc in the next 4 sps, skip one space, 1 dc in the next sp\*, join. Row 16: Ch 3, 1 dc in each space around, join. Row 17: Ch 3, 1 dc in the next 3 sps, \*skip 1 space, 4 dc\*, join.
Drawstring:
Place stitch marker (or holder) in loop to keep the hat from unraveling. From other end of the skein make a chain long enough to fit around edge plus about 12 inches. Fasten off the chain and neaten and knot each end. Lay the chain around the edge of the hat with both ends of the chain meeting at the stitch being held by the marker. Row 18: Sc in each sp over the chain (you are making the casing for the drawstring - see blue arrow in picture below). Do not crochet into the chain or it will not slide as a drawstring (the hook is behind the chain in the picture - black arrow).

Fasten off. Weave in ends. Voila! You are done!
