Winterfell Sock Pattern: Fingering & Sport Weight Knitting Design for Small, Medium, and Large Sizes

WINTERFELL

Size: Small (Medium, Large) Yarn: Fingering weight for size small or medium, sport weight for size large Needles: Circular or double pointed needles. Size 2.25 mm for small or medium, size 2.50mm for size large (or size to obtain gauge) Gauge: Smal/Medium - 8.5 stitches/inch in stockinette with fingering weight yarn Large - 7.5 stitches/inch in stockinette with sport weight yarn ly over 2 needles. Join for working in the round, being careful not to twisi Leg: Work rows 1-68 of leg chart for your size. Heel flap: Knit across 28 (32, 32) instep stitches and place on holder or waste yarn. The next 28 (33, 33) stitches will be worked back and forth for the heel flap. Row 1: \*slip 1, knit 1\* to last stitch, k1 Row 2: slip 1, purl 32 el flap measures 1.75" (2", 2.25"), ending after working a wrong side rov

Heel turn:

Set-up row 1 (RS): slip 1, k14 (19, 19), ssk, k1. Turn work. Set-up row 2 (WS): slip 1, p4 (8, 8), p2tog, p1. Turn work. Heel Turn Row 1 (RS): slip 1, k to 1 stitch before the gap, ssk (using one stich from each side of the gap), k1. Turnwork. Heel Turn Row 2 (WS): slip 1, p to 1 stitch before the gap, p2tog (using one stich from each side of the gap), p1. Turn work. Now repeat Heel turn row 1 & 2 until all sts on each side have been worked, you should end after a wrong siderow.

Pickup for gussets:

With right side facing, slip 1, k8 (10, 10), place marker to indicate beginning of round, k to end of heel Copyright Sordid Details Designs 2011 Designed with Intwined Pattern Studio (intwinedstudio.com) stitches, pick up and knit 1 stitch for each slipped stitch on side of heel flap, plus 1 in the gap, place marker to indicate start of instep, knit across instep sts, place marker, pick up and knit 1 stitch in the gap and then 1 stitch for each slipped stitch on other side of heel flap, knit to marker.

Foot:

Round 1: Knit to 3 sts before instep marker k2tog, k1, slip marker, work 1 row of instep pattern, slip marker, k1, ssk, knit remaining stitches of round. Round 2: k to instep marker, slip marker, work next row of instep pattern, slip marker, k to end of round. Work these 2 rounds until there are 28 (32, 32) sole stitches (56, 64 total stitches). start of sole stitches. Remove start of round marker from middle of heel Continue to work instep stitches in pattern until completion of instep chart, then k each round until sock measure 2" from end of desired foot length.

Toe:

Set-up Round 1: K across sole stitches, slip marker, k1, ssk, k instep stitches to last 3 stitches of instep, k2tog,k1. Set-up Round 2: Knit Round 1: k1, ssk, kto last 3 sole stitches, k2tog, k1; k1, ssk, knit to last 3 instep stitches, k2tog, k1. Round 2: Knit Repeat rounds 1 & 2 until 18 (22, 22) stitches remain. Place 9 (11, 11) instep stitches on one needle, and 9 (11, 11) heel stitches on another needle. Cut yarn, leaving a long enough tail for grafing. Close toe using Kitchener stitch.
