PATTERN NOTES
The pattern will yield a neckwarmer/cowl with a circumference of about 23" and a height of about 9". However, please note that I crochet very tightly - depending on how tightly you crochet & what type of yarn you use, you may need to adjust the stitches accordingly. I used 64 stitches around, but if you crochet more loosely, you may need to use fewer stitches. Please check the sizing of your first row after you get to 55-60 stitches. I made this cowl for my husband, and he wanted it to be relatively snug, so I used some stitch markers to check the fit & mark where the point to where I needed to frog back the foundation row.
PATTERN
Slip stitch to join. Use that long yarn tail to stitch up the opening, or use a stitch marker to connect the bottom of the fhdc and weave in/stitch up that tail later. Round 2-4: chain 2; hdc around. Slip stitch to join. Round 5: chain 1; sc around. Slip stitch to join. Round 6: chain 2; hdc around. Slip stitch to join. Round 7: chain 1; sc around. Slip stitch to join. Round 8-19: repeat Round 6 & 7 until you are at about 2" under the desired height of the cowl. CHECK YOUR SIZING AGAIN HERE! You may need to use fewer repeats of Rounds 6 & 7 than I had to use if you crochet more loosely than I do (which I think just about everyone does!) @ Round 20-23: chain 2; hdc around. Slip stitch to join. Weave in yarn end. If not done so already, use the yarn tail to weave/crochet/sew up the bottom of the fhdc round. In lieu of my dear husband modelling the cowl, Grommit has agreed to model the finished product:
