LE MARQUE-PAGE

and she has two wonderful directresses there. Come the end of the term and i Lreally wanted to offer something meaningful to them. But i am a mother, and like for all mothers, time is short! So these bookmarks were the answer. They take no time to make (well, a little!) and yet they are handmade and special, small “thank you's" to two wonderful women for showing so much patience and so much passion to guide the children in their never-ending thirst for new activities.

MATERIALS : Perlé thread $\mathfrak{n}^{\circ}8$ , scraps, in greens (leafy colours) Perlé thread $\mathfrak{n}^{\circ}8$ , scraps, in bright colours (fowery colours) A hook $1{,}5\mathrm{mm}$ Gauge is unimportant in this project FINIsHED MEAsUREMENTs : As long or as short as you fancy, these bookmarks can be made to fit a special book by varying length and crochet size. I make them roughly $30\;\mathrm{cm}$ long.

FLOWER (SEE CHART) :

Using 1 mm hook make a magic loop to begin (or chain 4 and join to make a loop). Round 1 : Make 8 sc into loop and join (with a sl st). (8 st) R 2 : Make 2 hdc into each sc and join. (16st) R 3 : Ch 1 (count as sc), ch3, skip 1 sc and \*sc in next sc, ch3, skip 1 sc\* around, join. (8 loops) R 4 : Ch 1 (count as sc), 3 dc, picot, 3dc in next loop and \* sc in next sc,3 dc, picot, 3dc in next loop\* around, join. (8 petals) Cut thread and weave in ends.

STEM AND LEAF (SEE CHART FOR LEAF) :

Using green thread, attach yarn with a sc between two petals of the fower. $^{*}\!\mathrm{Ch}\,2$ , sc in second chain from hook\*, repeat \*\* until sc chain measures $23\;\mathrm{cm}$ Now we'll make the leaf : Ch 12, work in back loops only, sc in second chain from hook, hdc in next chain, dc in next chain x 2, htr in next chain $_{\mathrm{x}2}$ , tr in next chain, dc in next chain, hdc in next chain, sc in next chain x2. Now we're going around the stem to make the other side of the leaf. Because we used only the back loops, we have a nice line of twisted looking line for a middle vein. We want to keep it, so the other side of the leaf willbe worked into the loop showing at the back (In the chart i show it as a back loop, sounds confusing...but when you'll be looking at that line, the mystery shall be revealed). Ch 1 to turn easily, then sc opposite the second sc of end of other side, hdc in next chain, dc in next chain x 2, htr in next chain $_{\mathrm{x}2}$ , tr in next chain, dc in next chain, hdc in next chain, sc in next chain $_{\mathrm{x}2}$ To finish, join with a sl st in the uppermost loop of the leaf, cut the thread and pull it with the crochet to give our leaf a pointy end. Weave in ends.
