by renee ferguson Here's a sweater I made for my husband a few years ago. I'm proud to say it's become his favorite, so much so that the proof is in the continual stream of coffee stains he keeps having to wash out of it (after the second wash, I told him he'd have to wash it himself from then on if he kept dripping stuff on it ). I used a machine washable wool from Cleakheaton which is very soft. This pattern fits mens? sizes (Medium, Large) and XLarge — David's got XL shoulders! TENSION: 23 sts and 32 rows = 10cm, in St st using #4mm needles.

FINISHING
Iron on wrong sides, covering with a cotton cloth or pillow case and using a steam iron before sewing front & back seams together at shoulders with a mattress stitch. Sew sleeves along Raglan edges, noting that top of sleeves form part of the neckline, then sew along length of sleeves. Complete work by sewing the sides of body together, leaving an 8cm opening from the bottom of the front side to create a side-flap [see photo below]. [Keep stitches on the ch from the back so that you can pick these up when attaching collar.] COLLAR With #3.5mm circular needles, begin picking up (94, 10o) 102 sts from the front of RIGHT shoulder seam (not collar opening) along collar edge to the LEFT shoulder seam: K2, P2. Continue in this ribbed stitch to form collar while at beginning of each RS and WS rows, pick up 1 stitch along collar edge. This will give you an extra (26, 26) 28 sts on each side Over the same amount of rows, creating the curved edging to form the front opening. You now have a total of (146, 152) 158 sts. Continue knitting in double-ribbed stitch (k2, p2), and then BO all stitches on a WS at Row 5o. Place the left side of collar edge along front edge of collar opening and then place right collar edge over this on the outside. Sew these edges in place with an invisible Stitch. Fold collar over and stitch in four places to secure it in place (see “x's"on diagram below.)
