Baby Pinwheel Hat Copyright held by Heather Elizabeth White, May 2009 Sizes: Preemie Small, Preemie Medium, Newborn Gauge: 22 sts/4 inches in pattern. Worked on size 6dpns. I used Cascade Pima Tencel Directions: Cast on: 50 (55, 65) stitches. (for alternate sizes, use multiples of 5 stitches). Join stitches, being careful not to twist. Place marker at the beginning of round. Row 1 & all odd numbered rows: knit in round Rows 2 (even): k9 (k10, k12), slip one, psso, yo repeat to end of row Row 4: k8 (k9, k11), slip one, psso, yo, kl repeat to end of row. Row 6: k7 (k8, ki0), slip one, psso, yo, k2 repeat to end of row. Row 8: k6 (k7, k9), slip one, psso, yo, k3 repeat to end of row. Row 10: k5 (k6, k8), slip one, psso, yo, k4 repeat to end of row. Row 12: k4 (k5, k7), slip one, psso, yo, k5 repeat to end of row. Row 14: k3 (k4, k6), slip one, psso, yo, k6 repeat to end of row. Row 16: k2 (k3, k5), slip one, psso, yo, k7 repeat to end of row. Row 18: k1 (k2, k3), slip one, psso, yo, kl repeat to end of row. For Preemie Small size, repeat rows 1-18 until desired height is reached. Then go to decrease directions. Row 20: $\times$ (k1, k2), slip one, pso, yo, kl repeat to end of row. For Preemie Medium size, repeat rows 1-20 until desired height is reached. Then go to decrease directions. Row 22: $\textbf{x}(\textbf{x},\,\mathsf{k}1)$ , slip one, psso, yo, kl repeat to end of row. For Newborn size, repeat rows 1-20 until desired height is reached. Then go to decrease directions. Decreasing for top of hat: Continue in pattern. On odd rows, slip one, psso in the two stiches before the prior row's YO. You should decrease five stitches in each row. Repeat this row $\&$ pattern row for five repeats. At that point, continue the odd row decrease, but begin pattern decrease: In the three stitch before where the YO will be, slip 2 knit wise, k1, p2sso (decreases 5 stitches per row) Continue until there are 10 stitches on the needles. K2tog 5 times. Work a 5 stitch i-cord for approximately 2.5 inches. K2top twice, cut yarn & thread end through the live stitches, tightening as you go. Weave in ends & tie knot in i-cord.
