YoU wilLL NeeD: 2 hanks Desert Garden Farm Worsted Wool 1 US11 circular needle (16" length) 1 set of US9 DPN's
GaUge:
Stockinette stitch with US11 needles 3 sts and $4\;\mathsf{r o w s}=1$ inch With larger needles and holding yarn double cast on 60 sts, join in the round being careful not to twist, place marker at beginning of round. Round 1: purl Round 2: knit Round 3: purl Round 4: knit Round 5: \*kfb\* every st around (120 sts) Knit even for 10 inches. Switch to US 9's for bottom of bag Next round: \*k2tog\* repeat around (60 sts) Round 2: purl Repeat these two rounds twice more (15 sts remain) Round 7: $^{*}{\sf k}2\sf{t o g}^{*}$ repeat around to last st, k1 (8 sts) Break yarn leaving a long tail. Draw tail through remaining sts and cinch bottom of bag closed. With Us11's at cast on edge pick up 8 sts (can be anywhere on the cast on edge.) and work in stockinette for 12 inches, bind off. Exactly opposite from this strap pick up 8 sts on the other side of the bag and work in stockinette for 22 inches, bind off. Starting with shorter/first strap seam the bound off edge to the back side of the cast on/picked up sts edge creating a loop. Pull the end of the longer strap through the loop just made and seam the bound off edge to the cast on/picked up sts edge creating a second loop interlocked with first loop. Felt as densely as you like. Be sure to stuff the bag with plastic bags or towels to shape it while drying. Sample version is felted fairly densely to create a fabric that is thick enough to be used without lining. You may wish to line the bag if you have holes or are worried knitting needles may fall through.
