Front Part of the Pillow
You can work this pattern in 2 colors as normal double knit and use knit stitch embroidery 1 to make the eyes and noses black. Work the front part of the pillow in double knit stockinette stitch. For the pattern use the chart as reference. Both blue and black arrows should be blue on front and white on back, white fields white on front and blue on back. Start by casting on 90Double stitches, using this video for reference: 2 Then follow the chart, read front rows from right to left, back rows from left to right, inverting the colors. The pillow front is worked fat. You can use large pullover-needles or a magic loop as prefered. After the chart is finished, bind of not to losely, not to tight 3 . Then use the knit stitch embroidery to make all black arrowed stitches to appear black. If you want a reversible pillow they should be black on both front and back side. Steam an Block the fabric. This should give you a square peace of knited fabric of about 45cm x 45 cm.

Back side
Since we want the complete the pillow to be reversible, the back of the pillow is worked in seed stitch. Knit one piece to be 45cm x 45cm: Cast on 90 stitches and work until you have 45cm. Work a second peace which is only about 20cm long. If you want the picture to appear on both sides of the pillow you would have to work the front side twice. You can also combine a pillow with one pattern on the front and a different pattern on the back.
Finish
Steam or wash and fixate all pieces. put the front part and the larger back part on top of each other. They should be of even size. Sew the top, left and right sides together in a reversible seam. Sew the smaller back part as closing fap to the bottom of the front side. Put a pillow in the pillowcase and use the flap to close it.

General Double Knit Instructions
Double Knit is done with two contrasting Yarns at the same time. You can hold both yarns in one hand or one yarn in each hand. There are also some helping tools that can be bought. I prefere holding both yarns in the left hand, you can see how I do it in the pictures. After cast on you have 180 stitches in total. You have to view them as 90 double-stitches, however.

The first stitch of each doublestitch is knit, the second stitch purled. The knit stitch will appear on the front side, the purled stich on the reverse side. When you knit the first stitch the unused yarn has to be behind the needles such as the yarn crosses on the back of the stitch. When you purl the unused yarn has to be in front of the needles, passing in front of the stitch. This way both sides will appear like stockinette stitch. I really like this video, but it is in German: 5 In the front rows follow the chart from right to left. A blank field stands for a double-stitch wherein the knit is the lighter colour and the purl stitch is in the darker color. A filled field stands for a doublestitch where the knit is dark and the purl is light. In the backrows read the Chart from left to right. Colors are reversed as well: For blank fields the knit stitch is dark, for filled fields the knit stitch is light. I do no extra edge stitches. In the last double-stitch of each row do not knit the stitches but just slip them. For the knit stitch while slipping both yarns should be behind the stitch. For the purl stitch while slipping both yarns should be in front of the stitch. When turning the work make sure both yarns are crossed over, otherwise the side will stay open. The first double-stich is just knit / purled as usual. When binding of, make sure not to work to loosely and not to tight. only use the mail color of the front side for binding of.
