CALYPSO
Design by Amy E. Anderson @ design by Amy E. Anderson

I love edgings, so when I discovered this super-easy one, I thought, "This is as cool as that dog food that makes its own gravy!" This little cotton sweater will be perfect for summer picnics and trips to the beach. The body is worked in one piece to the armholes. Directions are given for three sizes. If only one number is given, it applies to all sizes. Materials: Cotton Classic by Tahki 4 (5, 6) skeins of Main Color (MC) 1 skein of Contrast Color (CC) 6 (6, 7) buttons, size 7/16" Needles: Size 5, or size needed to obtain gauge Gauge: 11 sts $\r=2^{n}$ in Texture Stitch Finished Dimensions: Chest: $\pm\pmb{24^{\circ}}$ $(26^{\circ},28\%^{n})$ Body Length: $12^{\circ}$ ( $13^{\circ}$ 14") Sleeve Length: $4\%^{*}\textcircled{5"},5\%^{*})$ Button Sources: Silver buttons from Bigsby's Sewing Center - Streamline #K2153 Fluorescent Fish buttons from Hancock Fabrics - La Petite #1179. Scalloped Edging (multiple of $\mathsf{6}+\mathsf{3}$ Row 1 (RS): K3 [BO3, K3] repeat $[-]$ to end of row. Note: After each BO3 there will be 1 st left on the needle, this counts as st #1 of the following K3. Texture Stitch: Row 1 (RS): [K2, P2], repeat $[-]$ to end of row. Row 2 (WS): Purl Row 3: [P2, K2], repeat $[-]$ to end of row. Row 4: Purl Repeat these 4 rows to create pattern. Body: With CC, cast on 261 (285, 309) sts. Work scalloped edge. You will have 132 (144, 156) sts. Switch to MC and purl 1 row. Establish pattern as follows: Next row: Work 5 sts in garter stitch, PM, work to last 5 sts in Texture Stitch, PM, work last 5 stitches in garter stitch. Continue in pattern, keeping first 5 sts and last 5 sts in garter stitch - on next RS row, work your first buttonhole as follows: K2, yarn over, K2tog, K1, work to end of row in pattern. Continue as established until body measures $6\%^{\prime\prime}$ (7", 7%2"), creating another buttonhole every $1\%^{n}\left(2^{n},\,1\%^{n}\right)$ . End so that next row worked will have RS facing. Begin armhole opening as follows: Next row: Work 33 (37, 39) sts in pattern, B0 2 (0, 2) sts at armhole, work 62 (70, 74) sts in pattern, BO 2 (0, 2) sts at armhole, work 33 (37, 39) sts in pattern. Next row: Work 33 (37, 39) sts in pattern, slip 62 (70, 74) sts to holder for back, slip 33 (37, 39) sts to holder for right front. Working on Left Front sts only, continue in pattern until left front measures ${{\sf{10}}^{\circ}}$ (11", $12^{n})$ , ending so that next row worked will have Ws facing. Begin neck opening as follows: BO 9 (11, 12) sts at beginning of next row. BO 3 sts at beginning of next WS row. BO 2 sts at beginning of next WS row. BO 1 st at beginning of next WS row. You will have 18 (20, 21) sts remaining on shoulder. Work even until left front measures $12^{n}$ (13", 14"), ending so next row worked wilhave WS facing. Slip all sts to holder. Put Right Front sts back on needles, so that first row worked will have WS facing. Continue in pattern until right front measures 10" (11", 12"), ending so that next row worked will have RS facing. Work your last buttonhole at approximately 9%2" (10%2", 11%"). Begin neck opening as follows: BO' 9 (11, 12) sts at beginning of next row. BO 3 sts at beginning of next RS row. BO 2 sts at beginning of next RS row. BO 1 st at beginning of next RS row. You will have 18 (20, 21) sts remaining on shoulder. Work even until left front measures $12^{\circ}$ (13", 14"),, ending so next row worked will have WS facing. Slip all sts to holder. Put Back sts on needles so that first row worked will have WS facing. Work even until back measures $12^{\circ}$ (13", 14"), ending so that next row worked will have RS facing. Next row: Work 18 (20, 21) sts in pattern, BO 26 (30, 32) sts for back neck, work 18 (20, 21) sts in pattern. Slip all sts to holders.
CALYPSO (page two)
Knit together and bind off shoulder seams on WS, as follows:
Slip one set of front shoulder sts onto one needle. Slip one set of the back shoulder sts onto another needle. Hold these two needles so that the RS are together and you're looking at the WS. Using a $3^{r d}$ needle, knit together and bind off as follows: Insert needle through 1 st on the front needle and 1 st on the back needle, and knit these 2 sts together. Repeat for the next st on the front and back needle, then lift the first st on the right needle over the $2^{n\mathsf{d}}$ st to bind off, as you would in ordinary knitting. Continue working in this manner to the end of the row.
Collar:
With CC, cast on 177 (189, 201) sts. Work scalloped edge. You will have 90 (96, 102) sts. Switch to MC and purl 1 row. Next row: Knit across, decreasing 7 (6, 6) sts evenly spaced. Next row: Knit across, decreasing 7 (6, 6) sts evenly spaced. You will have 76 (84, 90) sts. Next row: Purl across, binding off all sts. Leave a long tail for sewing the collar onto the body.
Sleeves:
With CC, cast on 69 (75, 81) sts. Work scalloped edge. You will have (36, 39, 42) sts. remaining. Switch to MC and purl 1 row. Next row: Knit across, increasing 24 (27, 30) sts evenly spaced. You will have 60 (66, 72) sts. Next row: Begin working in Texture Stitch. Continue in Texture Stitch until sleeve measures 4%2" $(5^{n},$ $5\%^{11})$ , ending so that next row worked will have RS facing. BO all sts.
Finishing:
Block all pieces by placing them between 2 damp towels, overnight. Sew collar onto body, so that it does not overlap the button bands. Sew sleeve seam. Sew sleeves onto body. Sew buttons onto button band. Sew fish buttons onto front of sweater randomly, as an embellishment. If desired you can gather the bottom of the sleeve a little as follows: run a strand of CC through the back of the scalloped edging and draw it together, tie off.
