Preparing the chart
You can personalize the silhouette cat coasters by inserting a letter. I usually do the initial of the frst name on the front side, the initial of the last name on the reverse side. But you can also put the same letter on front side and unmirrored on the reverse side. Print out the chart of your choice and the letters. The letters are to be inserted in the area that has a dotted boarder. Look at the letter for the front side. Take a blue pen and make a cross in every field in that area in the chart that should appear in dark yarn on the front side (black squares in the letter's pattern). Then look at the letter that should appear on the reverse side (If you want to use the same letter as on the front, use it again). This letter's pattern has to be mirrored horizontaly by exchanging the left and the right side. Top and Bottom stay the same. Then use a red pen and copy the mirrored letter into the cat chart by making red dots in all boxes that are black in the mirrored letter.

Working the coaster
Follow the chart from bottom right to top left. Each box represents a double-stitch. White boxes get knit in light and purled in dark yarn on front rows. Boxes with black arrows Get knit in dark and purled in light yarn. Arrows from right to left represent front rows, Arrows from left to right back rows.
Working the area of the letters
The step "Preparing the Chart"leaves you with up to 4 versions of boxes, equaling a double stitch. Blank white boxes are knit the same way as blank boxes in the rest of the pattern light knit, dark purl in front rows, other way round on back rows. Boxes containing both a blue cross and a red dot are knit like the arrows: dark knit, light purl on front rows, other way round on back rows. Boxes containing only a red dot are knit and purled in light yarn on both front and back rows. Boxes containing only a blue cross are knit and purled in dark yarn on both front and back row.
