Material: 50 g Schachenmayr Catania, 1 hook 3,5 mm, a rest of Catania in a different colour if a contrasting edge is desired.
Abbreviations:
ch = chain stitch sC = single crochet R= row sl = slip stitch dc = double crochet filet pattern: 1 ch, 1 dc, skip one ch of the previous row. mesh: 3 ch, 1sc, insert the hook in the middle ch of the previous row to perform the sc
Neck part:
Cast on: a basic chain of 70 ch R 1: 66 dc (insert hook for 1. dc in the 4. ch from the end of basic chain) From now on continue in filet pattern: R 2 - 6: 3 ch, (ch dc) 33x R 7: 3 ch, 20 dc, (ch dc) 13x, 20 dc (around the ears dc replace the filet pattern. This makes it easier to sew in the ears).
Ear part:
R 8: 20 sl, 3 ch, 2 dc (ch dc) 11x, 2 dc R 9 - 12: 2 dc, (ch dc) 11x, 2 dc, at the end of row 12 crochet with sl along the edge of neck- and ear part until the outer corner of neck part (see arrows and red dot in scheme).
Straight front part:
R 13: 3 ch, (ch dc) 6x, 2 dc 21 ch 3 dc (ch dc) 11x, 2 dc, 21 ch, 3 dc, (ch dc) 6x R 14: 3 ch, (ch dc) 6x, 26 dc, (ch dc) 11x, 26 dc, (ch dc) 6x R 15 - 19: 3 ch, (ch dc) continue like this to the end of row R 20: 22 sl (3 ch 1 sc) 27x, skip one ch of the previous row R 21: 2 sl (work slip stitches in the first and second of the three chain stitches of the previous row), (3 ch 1 sc) 26x R 22: 2 sl, (3 ch 1 sc) 25x R 23: 2 sl, (3 ch 1 sc) 24x Continue to decrease like this until only 3 bows are left. Break yarn and weave in. Ad two to three rows of sc along the edges of the front part or one row of a shell pattern. This looks awesome in a contrasting colour. Sew on svarowski-stones or a decorative string if desired . Cut two pieces on the fold of a coordinating fabric using the sewing pattern, 1 cm seam allowance is already included. Make shure that your printer didn't change the dimensions. As fabric I recommend something elastic like Jersey. I always recycle old T-Shirts. Now sew the ears together. Fold one piece in the middle, right sides together, serge together or sew with a straight stitch, then clean up the seams with a zigzag. Turn ears to the right side and bonnet to the left. Insert ears (base of ears first) in the bonnet. Pin together, make shure that the seam is placed in the corner of the bonnet that is formed by neck- and front-part. Zigzag around. Turn the bonnet to the right and you are done. Additionally a string to fasten the bonnet around the head can be added but this is not necessary. The bridle of the horse lays completely on the wide neck-part and holds the bonnet in place.
